Analyzing Portfolio Performance

The Portfolio page provides in-depth charts and metrics to analyze how your investments have performed over time. It focuses on trends, comparisons, and breakdowns that go beyond the Summary tab's static numbers.

Performance Charts

The Analysis section contains multiple layered charts:

  • Performance — compares your portfolio's return against a benchmark (default: FTSE All-World). Change the benchmark using the Compare with... dropdown to see how your portfolio stacks up against different indices.
  • Absolute Asset Performance — the total monetary return from each asset class
  • Asset Performance — percentage return by asset
  • Absolute Currency Performance — gains or losses from currency fluctuations
  • Currency Performance — percentage impact of exchange rate changes
  • Absolute Net Performance — overall monetary gain or loss after fees
  • Net Performance — overall percentage return after fees

Top and Bottom Performers

Below the main charts, Ghostfolio lists your Top and Bottom performing assets for the selected time period. This makes it quick to identify which holdings are driving returns and which are dragging performance.

Portfolio Evolution

The Portfolio Evolution chart shows how your invested capital and total portfolio value have grown over time. This helps you distinguish between growth from new contributions versus market appreciation.

Investment Timeline

The Investment Timeline displays each transaction as a point on a chart, giving you a visual history of when you added or removed money from your portfolio. Use the Monthly / Yearly toggle to switch between granularity levels.

Changing the Time Period

All charts on the Portfolio page respond to a global time period selector. Adjust it to focus on a specific date range — useful for measuring performance over a recent quarter or across a full year.
